A fence is a vertical structure generally constructed to obstruct external factors from entering one's property. These fences restrict and prevent one's moment beyond the fencing. Thus, these act as a boundary of one's property. These fences have different functions. The main function of a fence is to provide protection and privacy. Sometimes a fence can also be used for decoration purposes. The fences are made out of various different materials. The materials are chosen according to the application of the fence and also the type of fence. For example, a fence for the purpose of security can be made up of some different material while the one for the purpose of decoration can be made up of other material.

There are many materials used in the construction of fencing. Some of these are used extensively while a few are used sometimes. Below is a list of a few of materials mostly used for constructing fences.
Wood:
Wood is extensively used to construct fencings. Majority of the fencings found on the outskirts of a town are made up of wood. Wooden fencings look more natural and give it a more real look.
Metals:
Many metals such as steel, iron, and aluminium are used in the construction of fencings. These are the most rigid materials for fence construction. Different designs can also be given to the fences made out of metals.
Plastic/PVC:
Wood and metals are the mostly used materials to make fencings. However, now day's even different forms of plastics are used in fence preparation.
